Unable to select ODBC features

I am using a ODBC data source (to an access database) that contains
point data that is represented on the a layer as the standard point
symbol. The problem is that I am unable to select these features in the
Ajax viewer. If I either use the selection tool or select with area they
are not selected. The map is set to allow features on that layer to be
selected
