[mapguide-users] Locator v/s spatial

Hi Shailesh,

We're using Munsys on Locator too. If you're only using Oracle for spatial data storage and basic queries, Locator works well.

Some work is required to set up access to the Munsys schema via FDO, and you'll have to set up views because it uses radians for angles instead of decimal degrees and I think that text justification notations are different. That's a general issue that isn't dependant on the database level that's used though.

We decided to use nightly translations via at FME at this point anyway because we didn't want to have to buy an Oracle processor-based license.

Jason

Thanks Haris
so Oracle SE with bundled Locator should be fine with out type of architecture.

It's actually not a third party software. sorry for that
It is a application software called Munsys, it uses autodesk map 3d interface and stores spatial data in oracle. It's built specially for municipal corporations with modules like cadastral , water, sewer electricity etc etc. www.munsys.com

	Hi,

Locator is subset of Spatial. the part it has works 100% as Spatial.
Missing is GeoRaster, Topology, Network and some functions,
but other stuff is same as in Spatial.

I like your architecture, It is one we use the most often.
I didn't understand where this part "A Third party Query Application" comes in, in MAP?
Lately I am using XE also .

	Haris

	Hi all,
I have read thru previous discussion on Locator v/s spatial.
I just wanted to confirm -
Can Locator (which comes builtin with the Oracle SE) be a complete substitute to Oracle spatial. What is the TradeOff ?

Has some one already implemented - Mapguide Ent. / OS on Locator . Any critical observations ?

The architecture we are planning is :
Autodesk MAP 3D for map creation and editing -
A Third party Query Application with builtin GIS modules , which works good on Locator
And a web based module on Mapguide enterprise .
All these would be based on spatial data and feature data stored in Oracle.

Any Comments Suggestions on the architecture are most welcome
