Or, you can use open source oracle provider for all that versions of oracle, also in MAP :)

Hi
Here we go again with the comparative Locator Vs Spatial.
The most important features you are missing from Oracle Spatial that Locator doesn't have is Partitioning, GeoRaster, Topologies and Networking.
But are useless for MapGuide - Map 3D capabilities, I mean they don't use that Oracle Spatial Features described above.
Since you are intended to use Adsk Map 3D, I must remind you that for Map 2007 SP1 - SP2 you must use Oracle 10g R1 (10.1.0.2) with Workbench Manager enabled (that means that Oracle XE is not supported just Std One, Std , Ent Ed are supported) and in the other hand for Map 2007 SP3 you can use Oracle 10g R2 Patchset 1 (10.2.0.2) with Workbench Manager 10.2.0.3.1 at least.
With that considerations you will be able to use Adsk Technology with Oracle RDBMS , for Oracle Provider you must use FDO 3.1 without SP1 for Oracle 10g R1 and with SP1 for Oracle 10g R2.2 which comes with Adsk MapGuide Enterprise.

Here is a good place to start. This is specific to 9.2 but applies to most features still existing.

Here is the 10R2 documentation

and read the first paragraph in this...

Subject: [mapguide-users] Locator v/s spatial
Hi all,
I have read thru previous discussion on Locator v/s spatial.
I just wanted to confirm -
Can Locator (which comes builtin with the Oracle SE) be a complete substitute to Oracle spatial. What is the TradeOff ?
Has some one already implemented - Mapguide Ent. / OS on Locator . Any critical observations ?
The architecture we are planning is :
Autodesk MAP 3D for map creation and editing -
A Third party Query Application with builtin GIS modules , which works good on Locator
And a web based module on Mapguide enterprise .
All these would be based on spatial data and feature data stored in Oracle.
Any Comments Suggestions on the architecture are most welcome
