[mapguide-users] bad performance with mysql or sql server

So this would be due then to the secondary datasource be accessed via the ODBC provider? Because if I take that out of the mix, everything renders splendidly. (Of course, I'm theming from the secondary source :)

Bill,

That is expected behavior as the 1st time you load a layer nothing is cached by the MapGuide server.

The Ajax viewer is actually faster so I would stick with that.

I know MapGuide's performance will only get better as new versions of FDO come out and performance improvements are made to the MapGuide server.

Bruce

Hey Bruce, that seems to be the case - first time is slow whether I pull it up in Studio or via a browser, and then afterwords it's fast. Currently I'm using the Ajax viewer, though easy enough to change if helpful.

Bill,

When the layer takes a long period of time is it always the 1st time you load it? If you reload the layer a 2nd/3rd/etc time is it fast?

Are you using the DWF viewer or AJAX viewer?

Thanks,

Bruce

I'm using SQL Server as a secondary table via ODBC. There are times when it takes 2 minutes for a layer using the secondary datasource to load and other times it loads immediately. I'm on 1.0.2. Anyone have a similar experience or thoughts?

There is a HUGE performance difference between the rdbms drivers in MGOS 1.0.1 and 1.0.2, and I'm pretty sure that you'll see the same benefit if you upgrade your Map 3D to SP3 (read about the performance improvements in the SP readme) and your MapGuide Enterprise to SP1... when it's released. It gets more Q/A than the open source release, which is a large part of what you're paying for with Enterprise.

Hello Jason,

Sorry, I forget to post my configuration:

- SQL Server 2005 + Autodesk Map 3D 2007 SP3 + MGE and java viewer
- Mysql 5.0 + Autodesk Map 3D 2007 SP3 + MGOS 1.0.2 and the latest mysql
fdo provider (I think R071...).

In both cases, the performance is bad in comparison with sdf based layers.

Thanks.
