I don't have anything but a 6.5 install so I'm out of the loop here. But, I
have esri data in my oracle SDO with esri style metadata does that mean I
couldn't use the king oracle provider?
Yes, I agree.
For metadata we can use already existing Autodesk FDO metadata, ( and
that is something I will support)
and yes I am trying to avoid metadata as long as possible.

Both of those things are true, but PK constraints and spatial index
types may be defined on tables, and not on the views on top of the
tables. When your dealing with views, you don't really know what is
going on underneath. While it *may* be possible to do some
reverse-engineering and figure some things out automatically, i doubt
the work is worth the effort. Whatever format of metadata you use is
probably OK, as long as it can be easily accessed programatically.
I would just point out that any metadata specified should be thought of
as 'overrides' in the sense that they are not required. People who just
wanted to use tables (with well defined PKs and what not) could just use
the provider as-is.
