[mapguide-users] SVG output

I guess I will be sticking to regular raster output then, even though my
target mobile devices should be able to render SVGMobile / TinySVGT format.
My only problem, when considering mobile applications, is that screen sizes
vary a lot from one device to another. I thought that using Scalable vector
graphics could help me a lot then... 
I guess I will need to generate a bigger map surface (thinking about using
tiles too) and then let the users of smaller screens scroll/navigate through
the maps. But then again I suspect this will consume more (expensive)
bandwidth too. I'm not yet sure about what is the correct strategy for
this...

BTW, what do you mean when you say :

the short answer is that mapguide does not support SVG out.  I  
believe that SVG out could be added via one of the scripting APIs in  
the same way that KML output was done before it was supported in  
mapguide proper.

One of the problems with SVG is that there are different profiles.   
For mobile devices, it may be desirable to support a minimal subset  
of SVG, such as defined at http://www.w3.org/TR/SVGMobile/

Of course, then you need a viewer that supports this too.

There are lots of problems to consider when looking at SVG output.   
For instance, how large an area to request for, what to do with  
partial objects (polygons?), how/when to request new features, how to  
merge features between requests etc.

I am not sure if SVG is even less bandwidth consuming at the end of  
the day, although I would suspect that it could be.  Also don't  
forget that you would need (in addition to the feature) attribute  
information to be embedded to allow for classification/themeing and  
labeling.
