Looks like this might have been fixed in r2579 if it's the same problem
as you were seeing:

Based on a recent email on the -internals list, this appears to be a
known issue in the SVN trunk.  Hopefully this will be addressed shortly.

I may also mention that when trying the API Rendering --> GetMapImage
and point to en existing library. The result is an empty (blank) png
image.
