[mapguide-users] Nice road design

Hi,

Sorry if I am beating a dead horse here.

I wanted to know if the question I was posting some time earlier this year
is now an integrated feature in the new releases of mapguide OS?

How can I style my street polylines in such a way that their width will be
relative to the scale of the map? Where can I select “Map Units” as the
width of the line ?

Thanks for your help !

Happy new year !

In the 1.2.0 Beta should be support for Map Units on the line widths. Which
means the line will be proportional to the scale you are zoomed in at
relative to it’s starting size. That will probably be more realistic. You
may want to switch to this and change the line style past a certain scale.

Regards,

Dave

Hi,

I’m not sure it is the place to post such question but I’ll give it a try.

I managed to create a nice map of Paris at street level using Studio and
MGOS. Everything looks great and it’s a real pleasure to work with studio
as it is really easy to understand and it allows achieving great results in
very little time.

What I wanted to know however is what kind of scaling strategy to adopt
concerning streets and roads. What I did is create a composite line with a
specific width for my streets and it looks great at a certain scale but is
not very realistic at others. For example if I zoom too much the width of
the streets is still the same as if I was at a lower zoom levels. To avoid
this I could create different line width for different scales. Is there some
sort of standard scale/road width ratio that I could use so that roads lines
would get relatively bigger as you zoom into the map? How do you GIS
specialists manage this?

Thanks for your help ^^

Cheers

Alex
