This example from CalCAD illustrates pretty much what you are asking for.

Basically, you have to use your selected object(s) as the basis for a query
filter.  Then, read out the features that you really want.

What's the easiest way to convert the Web API selection value "tSEAAA==" to
some other field in the layer's dataset? Any examples available?
