[mapguide-users] Accessing views/queries in MS Access

There is a limited case where you can access views, but only if you are
using MapGuide Open Source with the King.Oracle provider and an Oracle
database.

If you're not using this combination there is no current solution, but
it looks like future releases of FDO may support these. Last week a
code revision was posted entitled "Change 2519: Reverse engineer views
by default", with the description "This submission modifies the Generic
Schema Manager to generate classes for views, by default, when connected
to a non-FDO datastore."

You cannot access views in any database with MapGuide Open Source or
Enterprise as you could in the old MapGuide 6.x, etc. This is a big
shortcoming in my opinion, but I believe there may be support for them
in future.

As a workaround, we have data in SQL Server linked to SDF files in an
MGOS implementation - we use stored procedures in SQL Server to
create/update tables instead of using views. This approach may be
difficult in other situations depending on how your overall application
is structured.
