Jeff,

GeoTIFF is my workhorse format for GDAL so I'm surprised you are having
a problem with geotiffs.  Perhaps there is something special about your
image(s)?  If you could put one somewhere I could grab it, I'll like to
take a closer look.

Generally speaking GeoTIFFs should be a good format for use with the
FDO GDAL raster provider.
