That is a known problem. Theme on joined properties doesn't work when
the secondary data is from an RDBMS.

Thanks, that does seem to resolve that issue, but now there is another
one. When trying to theme the layer on any of the fields from the joined
table we get this message:

Unable to complete request to Site
---------------------------
An exception occurred in FDO component.
String does not represent a valid expression.
The feature join seems to work fine other than the theming problem.
