NO! No need to spend all that money when there is MGOS. 

Stefan, ArcSDE is just another GIS server out there by ESRI that requires you to BUY more middleware to run it.

i want to install MapGuide. so i have read the Getting Started and install 
documentation. But i dont understand what ArcSDE is. I think its a Thirdparty 
Software? Should i buy this software to get MapGuide completly installed or 
it is just a feature?
