I'm not sure that it's identical, but this looks a lot like ticket 141 <http://trac.osgeo.org/mapguide/ticket/141 <http://trac.osgeo.org/mapguide/ticket/141> >, which should also clear up some of the transform problems you were seeing.  
 
If I understand correctly, the Swig wrapper was only checking the object's explicit type, and it's now been modified to walk up the inheritance chain checking for implicit matches.
