If the application pool is crashing you might look into the following. It's not a fix, but it might reduce the pain somewhat:

Until now I did not succeed to get a stable Mapguide in combination with
raster files (not with MrSID and not with tiff files). So my impression is
that it happens with almost all raster files, although it can depend on the
content of course.

 I want to remark the problem occurred also in previous MapGuide releases.
Although the behaviour seems to be different (in previous versions the
Mapguide service regularly crashed, now the Application Pool seems to crash
more often ...)
