I agree that it would be useful to be able to define a layer based on a
SQL expression, especially in cases where the map developer wants to
preview the results before getting a DBA to add the view.  I'd suggest
adding this to Trac as an enhancement request.  Info on submitting

Is it possible for MG Server to Parse the Filter dynamically, i.e. the
filter can act as request parameter?
