Trac 1601 is the problem I was having. Since it caused Maestro to fail, I wasn't able to proceed any further.

The problem with identity columns is known:

It would be helpful if you could remember and enter new tickets for the features of the templates that did not work for you, including your browser version, etc.  If you don't, they likely won't get fixed for the 2.1 release. We can only fix the problems we know about, and the only way we're going to know about the problems is users reporting them.  

There have been a couple problems already reported and fixed in Fusion after this test release; are these the same as what you were seeing?

After starting, I got an MgNotImplementedException. I can't remember exactly
when that was. I think it was when I started site admin. It seemed to work,
so I ignored it. Now, in Maestro, if I run a check, every object returns an
error like this:

Error - OSGeo.MapGuide.MaestroAPI.FeatureSource: Failed to read identity
properties: The remote server returned an error: (559)
MgNotImplementedException.: Not implemented.

Some of the features of the templates don't work. On data sources, Maestro
