I haven't had any issues with items 2 and 3 when I've done this in the past
for a package that's about 1 GB. I agree, larger packages would be less
manageable. I see your point on item 1 but I don't use resource-based
permissions, but certainly something for others to be aware of.

Here's a few things I can think of:
- you don't preserve permissions when you go the package route
- it takes longer to generate the package
- it's relatively easy to overflow the maximum package size if you're using
managed data.

Is there anything wrong with Jackie's approach of loading a 2009 package on
a 2010 site? That's my preferred method as well instead of having to run
through the below steps.
