Doesn't sound like a MapGuide issue then. Like the other poster asked, do you have Adobe Reader loaded? Can you drag the file from Windows Explorer to Internet Explorer and have it open?

Martin,
I put the address in my web browser and it wont work. I am using Apache. Im not sure how to create an alias.
This is frustrating. I have done lots of links to web pages and they all work fine. I thought that linking to file on my HD would be easy.

Can you bring up a web browser and type in 'file://C:/Data/Map%20Book/Book.pdf' without the quotes and have it work?
Let's look at this from a different perspective. Which web server are using for MapGuide? Apache or IIS? Can you create an alias from the webserver to the directory and server the files up via http? E.G. http://localhost/myalias_to_the_files/Book.pdf

Martin,
Here are the strings I tried. I am still getting the same "Error on page" message
'file://C:/Data/Map%20Book/Book.pdf'
'file:\\C:\Data\Map%20Book\Book.pdf'
'file://C:/Data/Map Book/Book.pdf'
Not sure what else I can do.

Subject: [mapguide-users] URL activated for feature
Hi All,
I am trying to link through to a pdf file stored on my laptop. The location
is: C:\Data\Map Book\Book.pdf
When I put this address into the "URL activated for feature" and put a ' on
each end it wont work.
I validate the syntax and save the layer.
When I open MGOS and ctrl + select the feature I get a "Error on Page"
displayed on the bottom.
Any help would be appreciated.
This don't seem to be that hard I just can't get it.
Thank You, Mark
