How would I use the new feature source?
more precisely: the new feature source is available as an alias then, how would I create a layer based on it?

If you go into the serverconfig.ini file, all the way at the bottom there is a heading for unmanaged datasources. Put something like this in that section:

DWF = F:\Projects\GP\Data\DWF

That file will be in your Server\bin directory
