Unfortunately, I don't use java so whatever advice I can give is limited.

What I can do however is point you to some of the possibly relevant classes
in the MapGuide API:

- MgMap (holds the state of the map you are currently looking at)
- MgRenderingService (used to render images of the MgMap)
- MgByteReader (returned from MgRenderingService and contains the rendered
image data)
