What do you mean by creating a connection between a SHP file and SQL2008?
There's no such functionality in FDO Toolbox unless you mean you have
created a join task that is connected to your SHP file and SQL2008 database
is set to output the merged result to a separate data store.

In that case, create a new Feature Source for that particular data store.
(ie. Use the SDF provider if that data store is a SDF file, SHP provider if
it is a SHP file, etc)
