I just finished up an install. No MrSiD out of the box. 
This worked well for me:

I got the Tamas Szekeres binaries(64 bit) as instructed, copied as
instructed, restarted server and it works. I have not had time to do much
testing as T. Wekel did. I can confirm that it works for my MrSiDs.
