...and that good Open Sourcers is where you come in. Having a team of developers in house I can only imagine the effort that Jackie goes to not only for Maestro but for MapGuide as well. When you're in as deep as he is it can take a lot of time to rule out variables. So if Maestro is missing parts that are important to you, step up. Help Jackie feed all those little developer mouths (or go on a well deserved vaca). You don't work for free ( Ok some of you do and WOW to you), some investment on your part, which I might add u will benefit from, will be helpful in adding important functionality. Open Source doesn't mean free. Figure out the value to you/organization and step up. Pay for value. And this is not directed at any one person or org or even MG users in particular. There are many amazing talents out there, keep them around, make it valuable for them too...
Stepping off soap box and turning in

You can't create symbol libraries in Maestro, you can only pick symbols from
them, and that's only for basic stylization.

You can't use symbol definitions for point/line/area styles. Only composite
styles (advanced stylization) can use symbol definitions.

Studio makes this easy because they've figured out the UI for doing this. I
haven't
