When building the binaries for 2.5, we only had enough build resources to
target only one version of CentOS and the decision was made to target 6.x
instead of 5.x

Nothing is stopping you from building the source yourself.

In fact, building for CentOS 5.x will probably be less painful than 6.x
(there isn't that DWF Toolkit fork-bomb in 5.x that's rampant in 6.x).
