[mapguide-users] Improving the tile service

Great ideas, here are some more:
Implement the support for WMTS services. I know OpenLayers supports this so
why not implement MapGuide to also support it.
Generate missing tiles
A setting to allow the MapGuide server to actually generate a missing tile
if the tile is not present (relates to WMTS).
MgCooker tile map support
When you get a map of tiles generated, how about upgrading MgCooker to
support this same map (dumped in a file) to generate tiles. In other words
you could then do this:
1. Use the tile map with MgCooker to regenerate the existing tiles, e.g. if
you made changes to baselayers.
2. Invert the tile map and feed MgCooker to generate missing tiles.
3. Create your own map and feed to MgCooker (how to do this will be the
users of the API to decide) to have MgCooker only generate specific tiles.
Today MgCooker can only generate tiles for specified region and zoom levels.
I know that that in the US most stats, cities even roads are straight lines
but in other ountries a municipal or city is far from square. I could the
use some data about city boundaries, addresses (with buffer) or something
else to generate a specific tile map. The country or side or other not
populated places I would only tile the upper zoom levels and generate the
tiles when needed if people zoom in the middle of nowhere.
TileSetDefinition path override
As of today the tiles are placed in the folder specified in the
serverconfig.ini, but sometimes you want tiles on different drives/folders.
The TileSetDefinition could include an override of the default folder. The
path should support both file system path and URL path (if tiles are already
generated on another server accessible online then you can reuse these). We
do this today in our code by changing the OpenaLyers layer to point to
another path, but support for this trough Maestro would be great.
