Make sure none of your Groups have weird Characters (& ! *) in their names
(ok for label, but not names)  - this is more recent issue, but I found my
maps create errors in later builds with weird names (check layer names too). 
Remember, it is best to use stricter naming for MapGuide objects (think
DOS), but you can label all your groups and layers with your own characters
in the map...
