Thx so much steve for this hint,
the idiot i am i always read "1.1" instead of "1.10", assuming it would be
included in older version (1.1) of GDAL, lol....
this proves again, "READ CAREFULLY"...

thx again, I'm gonna try 2.6 (or maybe 3.0RC) and will report back..
