There are a couple of things that could be done to fix this. One is to increase the offset of the label from the symbol center point by an amount corresponding to the increase of the symbol extents due to rotation. The second is to avoid overpost checks for a label against its own symbol. I have implemented the first, which guarantees that the second won't be necessary. The downside of it is that the label can be somewhat far away from the symbol if the symbol data does not take up the full bounding rectangle.
