There was stylization code that replaced the invisible colors of missing fills and edges with blue and gray, respectively.  This has been removed.

The MdfParser created MarkSymbol objects that always contained fill and edge objects.  The default objects are now removed and are only reinstated if the parser finds appropriate definitions in the layer data.
