  Install optional KB912945 update on Windows XP (SP2) / IE6 -- possibly others -- and browse to dwf viewer sample.
- Artifact Status set to new value

  When this optional update is installed, it changes the ActiveX behaviour to require that a user click on the control before it responds to input.

This can be worked around by loading the object from an external JavaScript file.  MS has implementation tips here:
