Working with the current selection

I tried getting the selection from the client script by using
GetSelectionXML() and posting it to the .NET page. But when i refer to this
xml by saying selection.fromXML(), it gives me a memory corrupt error. The
XML looks like "<FeatureData......(a lot of tags in there having AQQQ, BQQQ,
etc)"

Any alternative methods ?
