BTW if you tell oracle you have users accessing a web application they will
sell you application server on top of the oracle database. It is not enough
that they get you for unlimited user access. They also want to be paid for
the internet access.

You should try to wiggle out of the application server.

Hi:

As Andy says there is two licensing schemas, by named user or by processor ,
if you wonder how Oracle sell you named user license, Oracle would ask you
“How many REAL users access your Web Application?” If your answer is “It is
uncountable” Oracle will sell you a license per processor if not they are
going to sell you a license per real user accessing you Web Application (or
MapGuide Studio), this is independent of how many users are connected from
DataSources/DataConnections from MapGuide to Oracle DataBase.

This question may be better suited for the Oracle sales and licensing folks.
Technically, a connection to the Oracle database from MapGuide would be by
the same "user", but I believe that Oracle will look at it as each user
accessing the overlying MapGuide application.

It sounds like Oracle is not doing named user licensing for new contracts
anymore (which follows the industry trend). Instead, new licensing is done
using the CPU licensing model. This would definitely make it easier for you
when determining what sort of license you need for your web GIS application.

 Hi All,

Can Somebody help me by telling the relationship between Mapguide users and
Oracle users? Suppose there are 3 users accessing the Web service via
Mapguide interface and all those users View Spatial Data that was stored in
the Oracle Database (just view, not edit). How many user connections will
Mapguide make to the Oracle Database? 1, 3, or something else? What if one
of those user disconnect and come back in? What if mapguide users are just
idle .What kind of Oracle Database License useful for the WebGIS Application
developed using MapGuide WebServer-Named User/Multiplexing or Processor
Based License for this application )? Any other cases if you can suggest of
will be highly appreciable.

Thks

Max
