There are two possible causes.  First, make sure you are using the
TRANSPARENT=TRUE parameter in your WMS request.  Second, if you are using
Internet Explorer  6 or below and you are formatting your image as PNG, it
does not support transparent PNG's.  IE 7 beta does as well as Firefox.  So,
for compatibility, you change your imager format parameter to
FORMAT=image/gif

How's the performance on your end?  I've found that MGOS can be pretty slow
when handling the multiple WMS requests that Google Maps issues.
