[mapguide-users] WMS now in Google Earth

When I enter that URL, it is redirecting to
http://mgos.innomap.com:8080/mapguide/mapagent/mapagent.fcgi. I think your
problem is in your WMS config in MapGuide Admin. Go into those settings and
then under General Properties, change the Server name from the above listed
one to mgos.innomap.com. Google Earth is using these parameters when it
assembles the WMS request URL.
Actually, I'm not sure that is it. I was just playing around and this
should work:
http://mgos.innomap.com:8080/mapguide/mapagent/mapagent.fcgi?REQUEST=GetCapa
bilities
<http://mgos.innomap.com:8080/mapguide/mapagent/mapagent.fcgi?REQUEST=GetCap
abilities&SERVICE=WMS&FORMAT=text/xml> &SERVICE=WMS&FORMAT=text/xml but it
is issuing a password challenge/response unrelated to MapGuide. But, this
is working: http://mgos.innomap.com:8080/mapguide/mapagent/index.html
You may want to change your default Administrator password to something
different.........

This should work other then the password thing. This is pretty much what
Google creates after you select the layer. Only GE seems to change the
mgos.innomap.com to innomap, maybe a variable of sorts?
Anyway this should work

So the WMS Server you are entering is your own or are you using
<http://data.mapguide.com/mapguide/mapagent/mapagent.fcgi>
http://data.mapguide.com/mapguide/mapagent/mapagent.fcgi? What did you try
in IE?

Ok I've gotten that far. For some reason or another, after I select the
layer I want, hit ok. It trys said selected layer. This is when its asking
for a password. I've even tried it in IE and I get challenged. I'm still
in version 1.0.0 if that helps.
Any Ideas?

The .fcgi URL is the WMS Server URL and you don't open it directly in a
browser. You add that as a new WMS Server in the "Web Mapping Service
Parameters" Google Earth dialog box. Once you do that, it will show you the
layers that are on that WMS Server (MGOS) that are exposed via WMS.

Andy,
I'm being prompted for a password. Do you know what I'm missing? I've
tried different passwords and nothing seems to work.

For those of you who follow Google Earth happenings, the latest release of
beta 4 supports WMS as image overlay sources. It's very cool, pretty easy
to use and even includes a number of pre-reloaded WMS URL's. Our own DM
Solutions server is even listed (it's the last one in the list - easy to
find). If you have a previous version of GE, you have to uninstall it prior
to installing this version. This blog entry has some details on how to use
this feature: <http://www.ogleearth.com/2006/09/wms_how_does_it.html>
http://www.ogleearth.com/2006/09/wms_how_does_it.html
I tried it with some WMS layers from MapGuide Open Source and Enterprise and
it worked reasonably well. You may have to manually tweak the WMS request
parameters manually. For instance, change FORMAT=image/gif to
FORMAT=image/png or transparency doesn't seem to work. One thing to watch
out for, MapGuide only supports single layer WMS requests so do not try to
add more than one layer to the single overlay definition or it will fail.
Attached is a KMZ placemark of the Sheboygan hydrography layer from
Autodesk's demo server. If you want to work with the other layers there
just add a new WMS Server in the GE dialog using
