You can also have both flavors of the web extensions installed side by side,
but it's a bit tricky. If you want to use .NET as your default, first run
the installer choosing PHP as your web extension of choice. Then, run it
again this time choosing .NET. It will leave the mapviewerphp folder
installed, but will change the IIS virtual directories to the .NET folders
instead. This is the only way I know of to accomplish this without manually
configuring with SVN. I talked to Zak James of DM Solutions about a month
ago regarding Web Studio's dependency on the PHP web extensions and I think
they have acknowledged that they need to establish a more language neutral
solution.
BTW, this problem and both solutions would also apply to those using the
Java/JSP web extensions.

Just a critical FYI for all those out there using the .NET web extensions:
In order to enable the Preview Pane, you must do the following:
- Open up C:\Program
Files\MapGuideOpenSource\WebServerExtensions\www\webstudio\js\WSView.js in a
text editor.
- Do a search and replace on "mapviewerphp/ajaxviewer.php" with
"mapviewernet/ajaxviewer.aspx"
- Stop and restart the MapGuide Server service
- Clear your browser cache (important)
You will then be able to access Web Studio with full previewing
capabilities.
I did a search and didn't find this mentioned anywhere so I thought I would
post.
It would be prudent to put a setting in the config.xml to specify the web
extension of choice in any subsequent update.
