Hi Alba,
We have not done much testing of FDO 3.1 on Fedora 4. Our primary
testing for 3.1 happened on RedHat.
Our Fedora testing has happened using FDO 3.2, which is located in the
fdo.osgeo.org Subversion. There are quite a number of differences
between 3.1 and 3.2, especially in the project structure and build
processes.
FDO 3.1 does not have a setenvironment.sh script and the build_linux.sh
scripts are quite different. Can you explain in greater detail your
download/build process? I may be able to spend some time trying to
reproduce your issue on F4.
As Franks mentions, please copy all FDO 3.1 correspondence to the
dev at fdo.ogeo.org list as well.
Greg

Alba,
My work was with gcc 3.3.3.

Ah, sorry. I was using FDO from SVN-head (aka 3.2), not 3.1.

Does the above step really do anything? I didn't think that running
a script on linux like this would affect the parent shells environment.
I thought the only way to have it affect the environment would be to
do ". ./setenvironment.sh". The . operator means to execute all the
commands in the current shell rather than to run them in a subshell.

Did all of FDO get built and installed in /usr/local/fdo-3.1.0?

Yikes, I haven't seen this occur before. I would guess
something is in fact badly broken. I'm afraid I don't know
what.
PS. There is also an dev at fdo.osgeo.org mailing list that might
be more appropriate for FDO specific build problems.
Best regards,
