[Mapguide_users] Import DWG fails

Brad,
I do not believe that you will see another direct DWG data provider from
Autodesk in the near future. The DWG provider for MapGuide 6.5 proved that
this kind of direct read against a DWG is in most cases simply too slow. I
think Autodesk's current solution of using Studio to load the data into
feature or drawing sources is a good one. The part that needs to be worked
on are tools to do this loading in a more automated, consistent and scripted
fashion so that we can easily keep the MapGuide data in sync with the DWG's.

Regarding feature attributes, if you create feature class definitions in
your DWG files in Autodesk Map, these transfer very nicely into MapGuide
when you load the data as feature sources. But, this does mean if you just
have object data or database links in your DWG's that you will have to
define feature classes that contain those data definitions.

Andy and Jim: Many municipalities use Autocad and will want to connect
Mapguide to DWG files directly so there is no duplication. Is there any
plan to rectify this problem? Feature attributes are critical such as
property id, address etc.
thanks
