Hello Oliver,
Our GEOS version is
Dpkg -s libgeos-dev:
status: install ok installed
Priority: optional
Section: libdevel
Installed-Size: 6768
Maintainer: Ubuntu Developers <ubuntu-devel-discuss at lists.ubuntu.com>
Architecture: amd64
Source: geos
Version: 3.2.2-3
Depends: libgeos-3.2.2 (= 3.2.2-3), libgeos-c1 (= 3.2.2-3)
Suggests: libgdal-doc
It doesnt start to seed at all, it displays 0.00% and no progress is
reported. Can I send an zip archive of the shp files to you via email?
Thx for your help...

But how large is each polygon (number of points)? And when does it stop
working? After two polygons? After 10? Can you upload them somewhere?
And what GEOS version do you use?
Regards,
Oliver
