[MapProxy] mapproxy wms OK but kml has black bg

Hi, all.

I have mapproxy sitting in front of a local WMS. I can see it just fine at http://127.0.0.1:8080/demo/ for both WMS and TMS in PNG and JPEG.

But when I choose to hit it via KML, I no longer have a transparent background. All the tiles coming back have a black bg. I can see legitimate WMS requests going across the wire, and I do see non-black markings on the tiles, so the tiles are reasonable (aside from the black bg).

Any ideas?

I have tried both w/ and w/o the image attrs below.

TIA.
