[Mapserver-dev] mapserver rendering 24 bit imagery?

Are there any plans for adding 24bit image rendering
capability to MapServer?  I know that GDAL can be used for
reading many different image file formats, and that 24-bit
imagery can be read, but it still is rendered as an 8 bit
image, correct?
