I think Sean had started an area in the Plone site to track threading 
issues, perhaps that could be your starting point?

BTW, should this program and an associated README.TXT with the text from 
Jerry's email be committed in CVS in mapscript/java/examples, or in a 
new mapscript/java/contrib ?
