building Perl mapscript on Windows

We're trying to add Perl mapscript support to ms4w.  Here is the relevant info:

Jeff's having make problems which look like they have to do with directory slash issues (see bug info).
 
Anyone out there who might be able to help with some advice on building mapscript for Perl?
