Layer Class Offset

I'm placing an upside-down triangle as a point marker on my map and I'm
offsetting it by 0 -8 so that the actual point of the triangle instead
of the middle of the triangle is located on my point.  I've noticed that
this causes the symbol in the legend image to also be offset by the same
amount and since it's the first symbol, part of the top is getting cut
off.  Is there anything that can be done so the legend symbol isn't
offset?
