gd rendering : using pixmaps sybols on a line feature

Hi There,

  Is there a compelling reason why we would not use pixmap symbols to 
render symbols along a line (as it is now done for true type symbols)? 
Is using a pixmap symbol as a gd brush commonly used ?
Using a pixmap symbol along a line would allow the support of this 
feature through an SLD document.
