[mapserver-dev] RFC 72: Adding GEOMTRANSFORM to Layer/Label Objects

Steve,

Very exciting! My main use-case would be for labeling rivers "above"
the rivers. I see that GEOS has implemented a SingleSideBuffer /
OffsetCurve, which may help in the implementation (could be a challenge
with interpreting left/right vs above/below though).

Performance could be a problem when requesting features from a large
datastore since the spatial filter needs to be applied to the buffered
feature. Perhaps expanding the MBR of the spatial fliter by the buffer
value would be a solution...

Best Regards,
Brent Fraser
