Error logging

Hi,
Still going with my installation / debugging.
Using shp2gif and gdb I discovered that one of my directories was set up
incorrectly.

I'm wondering, is there a way to enable to messages that are created by
msSetError to be put into the logs?

If not, I'm prepared to code it up.  What is the procedure for adding to
the code base?

PS.  I'm now getting an error message refering to a .idx file.  What is a
.idx file?
