problem with configure

Has anyone run into this problem when running:
configure --with-php=/path/to/phpdir
...
creating ./config.status
creating Makefile
sed: file conftest.s1 line 66: Unterminated `s' command
creating gdft/Makefile
sed: file conftest.s1 line 66: Unterminated `s' command
creating mapscript/php3/Makefile
sed: file conftest.s1 line 66: Unterminated `s' command

FYI, I have ms 3.3.011 and php 4.0.3pl1
