dxf, shp file support ...

I have an interesting question.

Is anyone using the DXF file format with mapserver to import/ export files to shp format.  I have some data in a proprietary GIS format and would like to use it with mapserver.  I can export it to DXF but not SHP.  Is there a utility that someone has written that will convert DXF files to SHP line files?

The other option would be to write a direct hack from my GIS file format to SHP.

Any thoughts on this will be appreciated.
