trouble runnig mapserver demo and gmap

I'have installed MapServer Version 3.4 
Running the demo I get this error:

getSymbol(): Symbol definition error. (STYLED):(3) 

Running gmap I get :
Fatal error: MapServer Error in msDrawReferenceMap(): Unable to initialize image. in gmap75.php3 on line 610

any ideas ?
